I sat down with Milen Dzhmurov in late 2011. Can you describe how this collaboration started, and how it is working with multiple teams? Was most of the work done remotely, or did you all work together in person? Somehow we ended up here, it’s been a pretty crazy ride to say the least.Ĭlear seems to be one of your flagship products – is that accurate? When building Clear you teamed up with Helftone and Impending. We eventually moved out of my spare bedroom and into an office, hired another full-time employee and just carried on doing what we’re doing. Things really started to snowball after that. After this I started using freelance developers to help me out, and then around 2004 I asked my brother to come work with me full-time. I kept working on apps in my spare time and eventually started earning enough to give up my job in London. It really was a life changing moment and set me on the course for where I am today. I remember charging $10 for it, and being amazed when I got my first few orders in. I built it because I knew people were having issues recreating Aqua style buttons in Photoshop. It was written in REALbasic and ran on Mac OS 9. It was shareware that made it easy for people to design Aqua style buttons for use on websites. In my spare time, I’d be learning how to build apps, and in 2001 I released an app called Aquamatic. The early days feel like a lifetime away, it was back in 2000 and I was working as a full time web designer up in London. What was your first product, and where did the idea come from? How’d you get started? When were you able to hire your first full-time employee?
